A 14 DAY PILGRIMAGE TO HOLY LAND

Upon arrival at the Amman International Airport, we will be welcomed and helped with the immigration process. We will drive to Amman city and check-in to the hotel. Later proceed with  Amman City tour to visit the Citadel where we can see the Umayyad Palace and Hercules Temple. Later drive down to have a panoramic view of the Roman Theatre.

After breakfast, we travel to Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Petra was built by the Nabateans, industrious Arabs who settled in South Jordan more than 2000 years ago. Enjoy the amazing history unfolding before us.

We depart Petra this morning and journey to Mt. Nebo, from where Moses saw the Promised Land when they arrived from Egypt. Then visit St George’s Church in Madaba to see the Byzantine period mosaic map of the Holy Land. Visit a Mosaic centre and learn how mosaic art is made. Continue to the Allenby border and after immigration enter Israel.

 

Overnight stay in Nazareth (B L D)

This morning we will depart for boating on the Sea of Galilee. We will visit the Church of the Beatitudes, Tabgha – the church of multiplication of bread and fish. Then we will proceed to Church of the Primacy of Peter and visit the site of Mensa Christi. Later we will visit Capernaum, the hometown of Jesus on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. After relishing the special St. Peter’s Fish lunch we will drive to Mt. Tabor, the site of the transfiguration of Jesus.

 

Overnight stay in the Nazareth (B L D)

Travel this morning to Nazareth to visit Mary’s Well and the Basilica of the Annunciation. Later visit the house of Joseph and Mary and see Joseph’s workshop. Then we will drive to Cana where Jesus performed His first miracle at the wedding. Later drive to Muhraka in the Carmel Mountains, where the Prophet Elijah battled the prophets of Baal and then executed them. Then drive to Haifa, the Port city of Israel and see the world famous Baha’i Gardens and drive up the Carmel Mountain. Enjoy the astounding view of the Mediterranean Sea and finally we will make a visit to Stella Maris Church.

Enjoy your breakfast and drive to the Roman capital city Caesarea Maritima, and see the ruins of the old city. See the Amphitheatre, Hippodrome, Ruins of the Palace etc. and then visit the Aqueduct by the sea. Later visit Jaffa in Tel Aviv, known as Joppa in the Bible, where Peter stayed at Simon the Tanner’s house. Visit the renowned St. Peters Church in memory of the healing of Tabitha. Then visit Ein Karem, the beautiful village in Judean hill country. See the Visitation Church where the Virgin Mary met Elizabeth and the child in Elizabeth’s womb leapt for joy.  Later walk to the Birthplace of John the Baptist. Finally, we continue our journey up to Bethlehem, the City of David.

Our day begins with a drive to Nablus and visit Jacob’s Well, where Jesus met the Samaritan woman. Also visit Mt. Gerizim, the holy mountain of the Samaritans, where the Hebrew children, after their exodus, read the blessings of the Lord. Continue to Sebastia, where you can see the ruins of the capital of King Omri and also, according to some traditions, the Tomb of John the Baptist. Proceed to Bethlehem to visit the Church of Nativity, where Jesus was born. Also visit St. Jerome’s Grotto where he translated the Bible into Latin. Walk to the miraculous site of the Milk Grotto and then drive to Beit Sahour to visit the Shepherds Field, where the angel appeared to the shepherds announcing the birth of Jesus.

 

Overnight stay in Bethlehem (B L D)

After breakfast, we drive to Bethany, to visit the Tomb of Lazarus, the ruins of the old church and the modern church. Drive to visit Qasr El Yahud on the River Jordan, the exact place of the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. It is also where the Hebrew children crossed over to Canaan, the Promised Land, after their exodus from Egypt. Continue to the ancient city of Jericho, believed to be the oldest city on earth, and visit Mt. Quarantal by CABLE CAR, where Jesus was tempted by Satan and fasted for 40 days. See the Sycamore Tree on the way to Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. We will then drive to the Dead Sea, the lowermost point on earth where we will have a unique experience of floating in the salty water.

 

Overnight stay in Bethlehem (B L D)

After breakfast proceed to Masada National Park to visit the fortress, which was the last stronghold of the Jewish Zealots in their war against the Romans. Visit the excavations, Herod’s palaces, the synagogue, bathhouse etc. Enjoy the breath-taking view of the Roman camps and the Dead Sea. After lunch, visit the Israel Museum where the original Dead Sea Scrolls are kept and see the model of the Second Jerusalem Temple.

 

Overnight stay in Jerusalem (B L D)

We begin our day with a visit to St. Anne’s Church and Pool of Bethesda. Walk along the Via Dolorosa, where Jesus carried His Cross. Proceed to the Holy Sepulchre Church, where Jesus Christ was crucified and buried and see the Golgotha. See the Tomb Stone of Jesus, where He was buried and from where He rose again on the third day. Later join for a walking tour of the Old City which starts from Jaffa Gate and see David’s Tower from outside and then walk through the Armenian Quarter to Jewish Quarter of the Old City. See the Roman Cardo, the ancient road of the ancient times and then see the ruins of Hezekiah’s Wall of Jerusalem, also known as Broad Wall. Walk near the Hurva Synagogue, the main Synagogue in the Old City and proceed towards the ruins of the Mary’s Church. Continue to see the Menorah and the Western Wall. After dinner walk to David’s Tower in Jaffa Gate to experience the Sound & Light Show of Jerusalem.

 

Overnight stay in Jerusalem (B L D)

Our day begins with the celebration of Holy Mass at the Holy Sepulchre Church, if possible at the Calvary or inside the empty Tomb of Jesus Christ. (Mass subject to available slots) Return to the hotel for breakfast. Then journey to Mt Zion to see the Upper Room / Cenacle where Jesus instituted the Eucharist and the place where all the Apostles and Mother Mary gathered on the day of Pentecost. Walk down to King David’s Tomb, visit the Church of Dormition, the place of the Eternal Sleep of Mother Mary. Visit Caiaphas’s prison and the sacred pit where Jesus was imprisoned for one night and the church of St. Peter Gallicantu. Then drive to visit Abu Gosh, the place of Emmaus, also where the Ark of the Covenant remained for a long time.

 

Overnight stay in Jerusalem (B L D)

After breakfast, we check out from the hotel and then drive to the Allenby Bridge for departure from Israel. Drive along the Jericho Road, which Jesus mentioned in the parable of the Good Samaritan. After immigration and other formalities, drive to Amman International Airport for departure to Australia.  (B)
