A 14 DAY TOUR TO GREECE AND TURKEY

Upon arrival at Athens International Airport, we will be welcomed and checked-in to the hotel.

 

Overnight stay in Athens (B D)

Our pilgrimage starts with a city tour around Athens. There we will visit the world renowned Acropolis, the Parthenon and Areopagus; where Paul delivered his famous talk on the identity of “the Unknown God.” The tour will continue onto visit the Olympic Stadium, the Agora, Parliament House and  the Presidential Palace.

In the morning we will be setting out for an exciting tour to the historic city of Corinth, which inspired many of St Paul’s letters. We will then proceed to visit the Archaeological Museum, the major Temples and the Market Place. We will also explore the ruins of the church, the pillars, and the public worship place, where Paul preached. Later, we will travel to Mycenae to see the Lion’s Gate and the Tomb of Agamemnon before returning to Athens.

Today we will explore the city of Delphi, commencing with the sanctuary of Apollo and the historic  museum which holds the statue of the Charioteer. Later we will drive towards Kalambaka for an overnight stay.

In the morning we will visit the breathtaking Meteora and its world famous Byzantine monasteries built on the summits of high rocks, where the 14th-century monasteries compose one of the most breathtaking sites in the world. The rest of the day will be spent in leisure.

This morning we will travel towards Thessaloniki in Macedonia, with a stop at Berea to view the ancient synagogue where Paul spoke and King Phillip’s (Alexander’s father) tomb in Vergina. We will continue to Thessaloniki, where St Paul preached and founded a church, we will view St. George’s Church and St. Demetrius Basilica, dedicated to a martyred Christian convert.

Today we will make a panoramic city tour of Thessaloniki and view the massive Byzantine fortifications, the recently unearthed Forum and the Galerius Arch. We will continue to Kavala, the beautiful mainland port of Greece, where Paul arrived with his disciples Timothy and Silas. We will visit Amphipolis, an ancient Greek city prior to Philippi, where St Paul preached and baptized the first Christians in European soil. Later, we will visit the famous castle that built on 5th Century B.C, the Acropolis of Kavala.

We will drive east towards Turkey where we will meet with our Turkish tour guide at the Ipsala Border gate. After a short drive, we will arrive at Gallipoli and visit the battle fields of WWI, Anzac Cove, Lone Pine memorial, Nek cemetery and the War Museum. Then, we will travel across the Dardanelles, a natural strait that separates between Europe and Asia, to Canakkale for an overnight stay at the hotel.

In the morning we make a tour of the ancient city of Troy, where we will have the opportunity to see the  infamous Trojan Horse. We will pass by Troas, where St. Paul spent a week in preaching. We will then journey further south, towards the most favored of the Seven Churches: the church of Pergamum (Bergama). Later we will visit the famous Acropolis, the Royal Gates, the Temple of Zeus and visit the ruins of the library. We will proceed to Thyatira to view the ancient roadway, cloumns and ruins of a baslica. We arrive in Izmir (smyrna) in the evening for an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, we will visit Polycarp’s Church and the ancient Smyrna agora. We will then continue to Sardes, one of the Seven Churches mentioned by St. John. From there, we will go to Philadelphia, a city built in 2 BC by King Eumenes. Later, we will journey to Pamukkale, to watch the sunset over the stunning waterfalls.

We will begin our journey with a visit to Hierapolis, followed by Laodicea, before continuing to Ephesus to see the final residence of the Virgin Mary; where she spent her last years. We will then tour through ancient Ephesus to see the old synagogue, the theater where St. Paul preached, and the Library of Celsus.

 

Overnight stay in Kusadasi (B D)

This morning will be spent at leisure by shopping in Kusadasi. In the afternoon, we will reach the Kusadasi port to board a Cruise to Patmos: a tiny, rocky island where St. John received the divine Revelation while on exile, which forms the last book of the New Testament. Later we will continue with a tour of the 11th century monastery of St. John.

 

Overnight stay on Cruise (B L D)

We will arrive at Rhodes island, where the first stop will be Colossus of Rhodes and the next will be at the statue of Helios. The statue was erected by Chares of Lindo’s in 280 BC, and is currently one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. We will then continue to tour Lindo’s, an archaeological site, where St. Paul first arrived. We will also be wandering through this medieval city, having a chance to see the stone mansions or enjoy a swim and lounge on one of the spectacular beaches of the island. Later in the afternoon we will sail to Crete.

 

Overnight stay on Cruise (B L D)

Upon arrival at Heraklion, the capital of Crete, we will visit the Palace of Knossos; the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete, considered to be Europe’s oldest city. After lunch, we will sail to Santorini, the most remarkable of the Greek islands. The town of Thirasia which is situated on a cliff created by a volcanic eruption, and then procced to the Akrotiri excavation where recent Minoan discoveries might be the remains of the lost continent of Atlantis. Later at night we will sail to Piraeus.

 

Overnight stay on Cruise (B L D)

In the morning, we will arrive at Athens port and will be transferred to our hotel. The rest of the day will be spent at leisure.

 

Overnight stay in Athens (B D)

After breakfast, we check out from the hotel and then transfer to Athens International Airport for our return flight to Australia. (B)
